Sailing the Aegean: Our Greek Island Adventure

Read about our memorable trips to Greece, a country that's as steeped in history as it is drenched in sunshine.

This post is about our memorable trips to Greece, a country that’s as steeped in history as it is drenched in sunshine. Read on as we reminisce about our 2013 island-hopping escapade aboard a yacht, with friends who were master yachtsmen and us as eager crew!

A Sunny Misadventure

Joanne’s first trip to Greece was a sunny misadventure during her student nurse days. Landing in Crete with a friend, she quickly learned the hard way about the Greek sun, earning herself a rather ‘striking’ sunburn on day one. But that did not stop her enjoying the beauty and history of Crete.

2013: Setting Sail in the Aegean

Fast forward to 2013, and we travelled to Greece together, but this time for an island hopping adventure along with our friends, sailing the serene waters of the Aegean Sea. Our friends, the expert sailors, took the helm, while we learned the ropes—quite literally—handling sails, tossing fenders, and, most importantly, mastering the art of the perfect Gin & Tonic.

Joanne, the once sunburned student, had now evolved into an expert ‘Gin & Tonic technician’, ensuring everyone on deck was refreshed and hydrated. Whether it was basking in the sun or enjoying the breezy evenings, every moment was paired with laughter and a glass in hand.

Wild Swimming

One of the highlights of our voyage was the sheer joy of diving into the Aegean Sea. The warm, crystal-clear waters were wonderful, beckoning us to forget the world and just swim. The freedom of jumping straight off the yacht and into the sea felt like true luxury—no crowds, just the endless blue.

Our trips to Greece were memorable and more than just a trip; they were a journey through history, culture, and sheer aquatic joy. From the student nurse getting sunburned in Crete to the crew members sailing the Aegean, every visit has been a chapter worth cherishing.

So, why not consider setting sail on your own Greek adventure?

Till next time, keep adventuring!
